چکیده
This paper endorses and expounds the widely held view that all experience involves pre-reflective self-consciousness or self-awareness. It argues does not involve any sort of ‘me-ness’ ‘mine-ness’, is essentially relational, has subject as intentional object, representation, in particular self-representation, well ‘immediate acquaintance’, immediate self-acquaintance; cannot one primordial respect a mistake on part who it is.

Conscious Awareness and (self-)representation
1. Consciousness certainly is connected with awareness. In fact, some people would say the two terms are synonyms. To be conscious of something is to be aware of it. Conscious mental states are those we are aware of. From these simple platitudes comes the motivation, or intuitive support for theories of consciousness built on the notion of representation, whether it be representation of the con...

متن کاملSome Knowledge Representation and Reasoning Requirements for Self-Awareness
This paper motivates and defines a notion of explicit selfawareness, one that implies human-like scope of the selfmodel, and an explicit internal representation susceptible to general inference methods and permitting overt communication about the self. The features proposed for knowledge representation and reasoning supporting explicit selfawareness include natural language-like expressiveness,...
متن کاملSelf - awareness without awareness ?
Objective self-awareness theory contends that focusing attention on the self initiates an automatic comparison of self to standards. To gain evidence for automatic self–standard comparison processes, two experiments manipulated attention to self with subliminal first-name priming. People completed a computer-based parity task after being instructed that the standard was to be fast or to be accu...
متن کاملInformation Awareness and Representation
This paper discusses how information representation affects the degree and character of awareness afforded by computer systems: awareness of people and of information artifacts. Our discussion ranges from system design to theoretical concepts, and we aim to link and show consistencies across this spectrum. We begin by describing a prototype collaborative filtering system, Recer. This system tra...
